Community Development

OUR MISSION

To enrich the lives of disadvantaged citizens and develop their environment through programs and activities that encourage personal growth and community participation.

Our Story

Founded in October 2019, Love Is What Love Does is a not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) service organization that assists under-privileged communities of the Black Belt Region counties of Alabama. The founder, Mrs. LaQuenna Lewis, started the organization out of her passion to serve and the great needs she saw in the poverty- stricken communities. Because of her personal life struggles of being homeless and growing up malnourished and lacking necessities, LaQuenna wanted to create a resource for community members that will alleviate the stressors of not having daily needs met. Love is what Love Does mission is to enrich the lives of disadvantaged citizens and develop their environment through programs that encourage personal growth and community participation.

What started out as a monthly food distribution has grown into so much more in a short period of time. We have managed to rapidly establish several partnerships, expand our services to include senior and emergency assistance, disaster relief, and youth services. We have successfully maintained a program that is feeding hundreds of residents in Perry county and surrounding communities every month.
